The Laptop Project; Pupils’ Interactive E-Leaning Content

On 2nd of March, a group of Media Students from Moi University visited Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to learn what the institute is subjected to. In the Technical Services and E-Learning Laboratory scholars interacted with Mr. Aggrey Oduor, a Curriculum Developer, who explained what the institution does in order to make sure that e-learning will take place provided that pupils in primary school will be supplied with laptops by the Jubilee Government.

The institute is to develop interactive content that will be used by pupils as they will be instructed by their teachers in their respective classrooms. For instance, the content contains videos, texts and voice over. All these multimedia elements are meant for easy understanding hence enhancing learning.

Content is developed by teachers and individuals who work hand in hand with graphic designers. Data to be used is normally gathered from different parts of the country, edited, inserted other elements then a pilot testing done to ensure that all data collected is effective.

In 2013, the government took an initiative to train selected teachers from different schools on how to use laptops to guide pupils. Trained teachers were in turn supposed to train other teachers. In addition to that, the government has also ensured that schools are connected with electricity since the electronics will need power to work.

The laptops in which the content will be fed are being assembled by a group of engineers from Moi University, Kenyatta University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Furthermore, Safaricom Company is to provide internet since pupil will need to access learning material from www.kicdinteractivecontent.ac.ke
